12 month course

Safety in the salon, AKC safety Oath, practical haircuts and grooming routines for each breed (comfort grooming) business ownership in the pet grooming industry and offer job placement help.  There will be an intense focus on the requirement for safety in the salon and hygienic needs of dogs all the while dealing with the client relations to help educate your clients and guide others.

 This defers away from the ‘normal’ grooming academies that tend to focus on types of cuts that pertain to a vanity or ‘breed specific’ cut rather than a humanity standpoint. Focusing on grooming routines and cuts that a pet parent can maintain, afford, and contribute to by learning tips and tricks to cooperate with in between maintenance is a priority.

You will gain skills through hands on work and case studies  in assessing numerous situations that occur in a active salon including but not limited to:

 dog behaviors

 identifying normal and abnormal health issues related to skin, coat, ear canals, teeth and gums

 identifying and describing desirable and undesirable dog behaviors

Regular grooming is an essential part of health and wellness for pets, and it is important to be able to guide clients into proper routine grooming so that in our efforts we can ALL succeed in the cooperation it takes to keep them healthy. 

In order to do this, you must be able to identify several different details that will help you determine the proper cut/care and in an effort to help you succeed in this industry Serenity Paws Grooming Academy will be addressing the following:

  • Active listening

  • Written and oral communication

  •  Industry Laws and regulations

  • Breed types

  • Assessing situations

  • Dog behavior terminologies

  • Designing grooming routines

  • Provide a complete groom based on assessment of needs and clients desires that will compliment the pet/s and clients lifestyle.

  • Identifying and describing abnormalities

  • Problem solving

  • Managing behavioral challenges

  • Geriatric and special handling techniques

  • Provide sound recommendations to clients

  • Record keeping- data and information

  • Ongoing assessments of general health maintenance, grooming, physical exercise, mental stimulation, socialization

  • Organization

  • Rapport building

  • Research and involvement in ongoing education

  • Business Ownership

  • Collaboration and communication with veterinary professionals

  • Be an advocate for animals as needed- know local, state and federal Legislative Titles and Chapters pertaining to but not limited to:

    • Cruelty, neglect, abuse, abandonment

    • Mandatory reporting

    • Animal fighting, hoarding, tethering/anti-tethering
